Founder’s Word

I started this because surfing and solo-travel sparked something in my life.

My first surf in Bali was life-changing. Growing up in the city, it was the first sport I truly fell in love with, not just because of the waves, but because I felt safe, seen, and supported. My coach believed in me, and I got to surf with a community of beginners who cheered when I caught waves and laughed when I fell. We explored surf spots across Indonesia together, and that joy planted the seed for TidesandTribes.

But not every session was amazing. Some days, I paddled out alone and the waves delivered, but part of me longed to share that sunrise lineup with a community. And when I surfed with instructors who didn’t guide properly, I felt unsafe in the ocean, I wasted my time and my money. That frustration stuck with me and I promised that if I ever brought others to surf, I’d give them the best possible experience from day one. With coaches
who are invested, a community that cares, I want every session to count.

TidesandTribes is my love letter to the parts of surfing that changed me: the early surf mornings, the warungs you won’t find on Google Maps, the post-surf BBQs with locals. Not beach clubs. Not influencer cafés. The real travel, a different kind of holiday.

So if you’re ready to try something off-grid, surf with heart and with a tribe, experience surf and travel in a more meaningful way, you’re
exactly who we built this for.

To make surfing accessible for everyone and give a taste of island life, away from corporate burnout and city life! We hope create a supportive and empowering community.
